World Vision Rwanda provides Nyaruguru with TVT facility

The World Vision Rwanda on Wednesday handed over a technical and vocational training (TVT) center to Nyaruguru district, Southern Province.

“The involvement of the World Vision depicts clearly the organization as having the political agenda for the sustainability and social transformation of the Rwandan society,” said Jérôme Gasana, the director general of the workforce development authority, WDA.

Therefore, he requested the organization to duplicate such activities in other parts of the country, since it turns youth from job seekers into job creators.

The completed facility will accommodate more than 500 students from Nyaruguru and neighboring areas. It will offer different courses mainly carpentry, electrical, plumbing, leather technology, ICT and entrepreneurship among others.

“Some years ago we used to consider that students who attend vocational schools are those who failed to go on with secondary courses, but now it’s no longer the case. Even bright students are encouraged to join the schools,” said Alphonse Munyantwali, the governor of Southern Province.

Munyentwali urged local residences to take advantage of the facility by changing their mindsets where there have been misconceptions that people who join technical schools are inapt to afford other courses.

According to officials, construction activities were funded by Huron Hills, an American-based church, and Moriah Fund through the World Vision Rwanda at a cost of US$ 519,000. It lies over a plot worth Frw 18 million that was provided by Nyaruguru district.

Emmanuel Simugomwa, one of the graduates sponsored by the World Vision could testify how such trainings have led him to success.

He said that he was trained in leather making products and now has become a model entrepreneur in his area.

“After graduating, I started with Frw 10,000 core capital, but I have now completed my own house worth Frw 15 million,” he said, adding that he has now reached an impressive level, though the journey still goes on where he even help in training others.

George Gitau, the national director of the World Vision said that the TVT facility they provided makes part of his organization’s commitment to supporting the Government’s vision to achieve EDPRS and Vision 2020 among other programs.

“This achievement is a demonstration of true collaboration between the Government of Rwanda and the World Vision in stepping up the national development,” he said.
