Isonga youngster ‘Sibomana’ gets Junior Wasps nod
Patrick ‘Papy’ Sibomana is the surprise inclusion in Richard Tardy’s 18-man squad for Sunday’s 2013 Africa Youth Championship second round return leg qualifier against Mali.
The 16-year-old winger enjoyed a successful debut season in the Primus National League with Isonga and has now been given a chance to impress on the international stage.
“He was one of the most exciting youngsters last season and has great potential,” a buoyant Tardy said.
Meanwhile, Salomon Nirisarike will not travel with the team to Bamako. It has been reported that his Belgian second division side Royal Antwerp is reluctant to release him for the qualifier.
Rwanda takes a slight advantage in the return leg following a 2-1 victory in the first leg which was played over eight days ago.
In that match, Mali opened the scoring through Diallo Sambo after 22 minutes but second half goals from Mukura striker Emmanuel ‘Crespo’ Sebanani and SC Kiyovu defender Patrick Umwungeli swung the initiative back in Rwanda’s favour.
The winner between Rwanda and Mali will play Zambia in third and final qualifying round.
The 2013 African Youth Championship will be hosted by Algeria.
