Three more contestants from Western Province joined the Miss Rwanda 2012 contest last week-end.

Esther Uwingabire was crowned Miss Western Province, while Natacha Uwamahoro and Annick Umwamikazi became the first and second runner-up respectively.

Selections continue in different parts of the country, and girls are proud to participate. Organizers say the Western Province saw 15 contestants.

So far two provinces are done and two more, plus Kigali City, are left to go before the grand finale to crown Miss Rwanda 2012 to be held in September. The theme for Miss Rwanda 2012 beauty pageant is “Beauty with a Purpose; Unifying Rwanda Beauty and Culture.”

The organizers, the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC) together with Mashirika, assured the contestants they are all going to be put in a boot camp and will undergo intense training to prepare them for the finale.

The national beauty pageant was first held in December 2009 and the winner was Grace Bahati. However, she will not be allowed to hand over her crown to her successor because in the meantime she has given birth to a child out of wedlock, which the ministry says is taboo. Therefore, the organizers have chosen another person for this exercise.
