Rwanda’s Jackson comes third at TPF5 finale

Tusker Project Fame finally came to a close over the weekend with Kenya’s Ruth Matete becoming five million Kenya shillings richer and earning herself a one-year lucrative deal  to record an album with renowned record label Universal Records.

The first runner-up was another Kenyan known as Doreen and Rwanda’s Jackson Kalimba came third, a shock to many including the judges.

Jackson Kalimba was one of the most promising contestants who had shown a lot of growth in the academy and could display it on stage where usually the crowd would scream nonstop. He had a sensational voice and could almost  do any genre of music, be it RnB or Rumba. He joined  the academy with rather little singing experience but as the weeks went by he proved to the teachers of the academy that he was a good student.

Jackson not only impressed the crowd and viewers but also the judges who considered him the favorite. After the final, judge Ian Mbugwa tweeted: “Jackson was my favorite I can’t believe he lost.”

The young singer got the crowd on his hand when he sang his own composition ‘Safari’ even though they didn’t understand the lyrics since it is mostly in Kinyarwanda and a bit of French.

While Jackson did not make it and came third, after he lost he tweeted saying that, “This is just the beginning of my music and I will always do music because I loved it since I was a kid. My mum used to sing in church and in my blood is music.”

Jackson Kalimba a.k.a JK started singing at the age of five. Before he left for Nairobi, he was pursuing a degree in economics at a university in Kigali. His music icons include Mary J Blige, John Legemd and Steve Wonder. Asked who his favorite Tusker Project Fame icon from the past is, he mentioned Alpha.
