Right Guards stormed into the last four of the Zaafran/Okapi T20 tournament with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Challengers at Kicukiro Cricket Ground on Monday.

It was the second successive defeat for Challengers as they struggled to 73-10 after batting first. The Indian –dominated side then allowed Guards to race home with eight overs to spare.

Guards now have three wins in four matches and are odds on favourite to top the table at the end of the round-robin phase.

Chasing such a paltry score, Eric Dusingizimana (29 not out) and the in-form Dennis Mukama (29 not out) steered the team home.

For Right Guards captain Derrick Bayingana, the hard work was done in the first innings. “We did extremely well to restrict them to 73,” he said.

Eugene Haragirimana was the star performer with his man-of-the match performance of three wickets for 15 runs. Clinton Rubagumya also weighed in with two wickets for 15 runs.

Elsewhere, Indorwa picked up their first win after thrashing KCC by 66 runs. Indorwa posted a gigantic score of 156 after good knocks from Nayan Patel (41) and Mihir Bhatt (22) before restricting the four-time Sulfo league champions to 84runs. Patel matched his impressive batting performance with his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket to walk away with the man of the match award.

Indorwa’s victory means they still have a fighting chance of reaching the semi-finals.
