Junior Wasps doctor plays down Bayisenge injury scare
Junior Wasps doctor Patrick Rutamu has played down Emery Bayisenge’s knock in the final minutes of Sunday’s 2013 African Youth Championship second round first leg qualifier against Mali at Kigali Regional Stadium.
The central defender played the final five minutes with a lot of discomfort after a strong tackle from Mali forward Cisse Mahamane but Rutamu yesterday relieved that it was a minor knock.
“It was not as serious as first thought. It’s just a slight knock and he should be fit by Thursday,” the doctor said.
Rwanda dominated the match and could have easily scored four goals.
The match ended 2-1 in Rwanda’s favour but Junior Wasps coach Richard Tardy wants more from his strikers.
In his post match interview, he said, “We dominated the match and could have won easily but just couldn’t convert our chances.”
“At this level, you need to make the most of your chances or else, you are punished.”
Diallo Samba put Mali in front mid-way through the first half after pouncing on a goalkeeping error from Olivier Kwizera but former APR striker Emmanuel Sebanani ‘Crespo’ equalized on the 71st minute before Patrick Umwungeli’s stoppage time winner.
Rwanda will now head into the second leg in Bamako with a slight advantage.
The winner between Rwanda and Mali will play Zambia in the third and final qualifying round.
Tardy also expects to have Salomon Nirisarike and Faustin Usengimana available for the return leg ten days from today. The center-backs missed the first leg through injury.
