The senate has passed the bill establishing the army shop, together with its structure and duties allocated.

“With the duty-free shop, our security officers will have no worries about prices on the ordinary market, as they are always busy dealing with security details of the country,” Defense Minister General James Kabarebe explained.

He argued the shop is important for the wellbeing of the military and police officers since it will strengthen their capacity of delivering. “We really believe that satisfied soldiers and police officers will deliver more than they ever did,” the Minister said.

To conform to EAC market regulations, Minister Kabarebe stated that the country will sign an agreement with the member countries, specifying the items that will be destined to be duty-free.
