RSSB commemorates Genocide and remembers slain staff
The Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) has commemorated the 18th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsis by honoring all the victims, and in particular former Caisse Sociale du Rwanda (CSR) employees.
A delegation of RSSB on Thursday visited Nyamata Memorial and laid wreaths of flowers on the graves. This region had experienced Genocide 2 years before 94 when families were killed and homes burned.
Afterwards, they visited the nearby village of Karambi and donated Frw 11 million to survivors’ families. The donation is to help bringing water and electricity into 110 homes that compose the village. The delegation also had meetings with inhabitants of the village, encouraging them to stay strong in learning from the past to build a bright future.
In the afternoon, the commemoration went on at RSSB headquarters with homage paid to the 19 CSR staff who were killed during the Genocide. Before a monument erected in their memory, family members recounted their memories of the ones that perished.
“On behalf of the brothers and sisters honored today, and on behalf of all RSSB employees, we pledge to fight against any Genocide deniers and those who threaten survivors,” said Marcel Mpamo Nkusi, director of corporate division & administration at RSSB. “They died when their country still needed them, may God give them eternal peace. We will always remember them.”
