APR defender Ismail Nshutiyamagara and Kiyovu midfielder Hussein Sibomana have been overlooked for Saturday’s 2013 Africa Nations Cup return leg qualifier against Nigeria. The pair was omitted from Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s 18-man squad which left for Calabar yesterday because of poor form.
The other omissions are Elias ‘Baby’ Uzamukunda (knee injury) and Isonga goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera. Baby, who plays for AS Cannes in the French Ligue 1, played only 23 minutes of last Sunday’s 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Benin before limping off with a knee injury and has been ruled out for two weeks.
“It’s sad that he is not travelling with the team to Nigeria but I believe we have enough resources in the team to get the result we need,” the Serb coach said of the 21-year-old.
The Wasps have a tough task on their hands after being held to a goalless draw in the first leg. They now need a win or score draw to progress to the next round. Rwanda’s only appearance in the Africa Nations Cup came back in 2004 when the tournament was hosted by Tunisia.
Amavubi squad: Jean Claude Ndoli, Fabrice Twagizimana, Tumaine Ntamuhanga, Meddie Kagere, Salomon Nirisarike, Haruna Niyonzima, Eric Gasana, Jean Baptist Mugiraneza, Olivier Karekezi, Bokota Labama, Jean Claude Iranzi, Steven Godfroid, Daddy Birori, Emery Bayisenge, Evariste Mutuyimana, Frederique Ndaka, Imran Nshimiyimana and Jonas Ndahimana.
