This Wednesday we were subjected to some horror stories during celebration of heroes day in our neighborhood (umudugudu). The theme was: let us celebrate heroes’ day while denouncing child abuse. A few individuals talked about the lives and times of Rwanda’s most notable heroes: King Mutara Rudahigwa, the late Maj. Gen. Fred Rwigema, the late Agatha Uwilingiyimana and others. Kigali is catching up with other cities!

Yes, things are changing at a fast pace. For example: now we have dealers of Apple products. The shop is situated in the new high-rise in town, Kigali City Tower. What a charge of pleasure for fans of Steve Jobs’s toys! Walk into the glass-fronted shop and you will find all these people drooling over the latest iPhones, MacBook Air and other laptops, iPods, iPads, big desktop Apples and so on. Read more »

Christmas and Christianity as I experienced them

Christmas has come and gone. People partied, late into the night. They feasted, gorging themselves on rice, chicken, beef stew, matooke, roast goat etc etc, and drank rivers of beer and alcohol. Those mainly in the big towns anyway. Spare a thought for the seriously impoverished, mostly upcountry dwellersthat still went to bed hungry.
