The ground-breaking ceremony for the five-star accommodation took place last Monday in the presence of former Finance Minister James Musoni. The hotel, which is expected to cost US$ 60 million, is a project of the China-based company New Century Development. The construction works should be completed within 28 months.

Billy Cheung, the CEO of New Century Development, said his company has high hopes for the project, given the commitment shown by the Rwandan government to turn the country into a leading tourist destination, as well as a place of excellence to do business.

He added that New Century Development is proud to be able to contribute to the country’s development and assist in its reconstruction after the devastation of the 1994 genocide.

Cheung also remarked that they are aware of the high standards required by the Rwandan government in terms of quality and project execution, and ensured that his company would not disappoint.

Once finished, the hotel will count 242 rooms ranging from deluxe rooms to presidential suites.
