Isae Muzima, a man who is a suspect accomplice in the crimes of which former junior minister and Eastern Province governor Theoneste Mutsindashyaka is a principal suspect, has turned up in Belgium and is asking for political asylum. Mugarura and Mutsindashyaka. an accomplice of theirs is in Europe claiming that Rwanda has harrased him for political reasons Mutsindashyaka - together with several other people - has been answering court on suspicion of involvement in a big scam that saw the taxpayer ripped off to the tune of 1.4 billion francs when Entreprise Alexis Mugarura (EMA) the contractor hired to construct a new headquarters for Eastern Province kept submitting new invoices citing cost overruns. Isae Muzima is a Kigali businessman who owns a clearing and forwarding company and it was this man’s company that handled merchandise and goods entering the country that belonged to Mutsindashyaka. Muzima was also the clearing agent for Alexis Mugarura the owner of EMA and another principle suspect in the Eastern Province scam. Sources say that it is possible Mutsindashyaka and Mugarura may have advised Muzima to flee Rwanda upon the arrest of Mugarura and former Eastern Province executive secretary Charles Kasana earlier this year. According to sources familiar with the case, Muzima knows a lot that “would be very incriminating to both Mutsindashyaka and Mugarura.” Information we have from Belgium is that now some Europe-based human rights organizations are about to jump on the fact Muzima no longer is in Rwanda to begin making the claim that “the Kigali regime has made Muzima disappear”. The Rwanda Focus has it on good sources that Muzima actually is residing with members of his family in Belgium and waking up every morning to check on his application for political asylum in the European country. This is not the only way people are twisting facts to suit their interests in this particular case. Family members of Alexis Mugarura in Belgium immediately began contacting European rights groups saying the Rwandan government was “arresting Mugarura for his political beliefs”. This was even after court documents made it obvious the nature of the criminal offence for which he was arrested. Related articles:
