We will do our best to sensitize the public about the essence of Miss Rwanda and wipe out all stereotypes that have been associated with the event,” Habineza explained. This year’s event comes seventeen years after the last Miss Rwanda contest. Eligibility criteria and standards for Miss Rwanda have been set in accordance with Miss World standards, to make sure that the right candidate is selected, since she will be Rwanda’s cultural ambassador to represent the country at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant. Rwandatel’s CEO, Patrick Kariningufu, said that they would like to bring more of the cultural aspect into the local telecommunication. He added that Miss Rwanda 2009 is a cultural event, and they see it as fitting within their social cooperate responsibilities. “We feel we can do more to show the value of beauty and culture in Rwanda. Rwandatel is honored by the confidence the Ministry of Sports and Culture has placed in us to host an event of such magnitude. We are proud to be at the helm of this unique debut and are committed to facilitating this effort so as to further this cause.” Said Kariningufu. The finalists will undergo a month of training in preparation of the grand finale on December 19. A committee to manage Miss Rwanda will ensure that the winner adheres to the set rules and behaves in a manner acceptable of beauty queens, to make certain that the institution of Miss Rwanda is respected.
